Two women were banned from speaking in the Michigan house of representatives forum the other day because of comments they had made the previous day that were considered to be flagrant and disruptive. The language that was considered offensive was the word “vagina”, which was used in the context of a bill involving abortion and the government’s role in making family planning decisions. It seems odd to me that naming the anatomy at the center of all of these debates would be grounds for punishment when there have been instances of men literally fighting and screaming at one another on the house floor without any consequences. It is unfortunate how people in positions of power use these sliding scales of moral judgement that adjust accordingly to their own agendas. There seems to be a mob mentality where the quality or substance of an argument is irrelevant if the majority doesn’t want it heard. I’m always amazed when it takes the public to condemn behavior by the people who are supposed to be representing us and leading by example. Anyways, read the full story below.
